The 79th Annual Academy Award nominations announced Tuesday at the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences in Beverly Hills, Calif., among the nominees the musical Dremagirls picked up 8 nominations including Best Supporting Actress: Jennifer Hudson, Best Supporting Actor: Eddie Murphy, Best Original Song: "Love You I Do" and "Listen. Although 'Dreamgirls' was nominated for 8 oscars; the film was not nominated for Best Picture of the Year. Among other nominees were Best Actor: Will Smith and Forest Whitaker for "The Pursuit of Happiness" and "The Last King of Scotland."

It's about time that black actors and actresses get the recognition that so rightly deserve. I couldn't be happier for the Dreamgirl cast and the other black nominees.
